Homogeneous Asymptotically Reliable Serial Production Lines: Theory and a Case Study

چکیده

In this paper, a model of homogeneous, asymptotically reliable serial production lines is introduced, analyzed, and applied to the problem of performance evaluation of a modular paint shop at an automobile assembly plant. The results obtained indicate that the homogeneous, asymptotically reliable production lines are, on the one hand, simpler for analysis than traditional models discussed in the literature for the last 25 years and, on the other, sufficiently rich to reflect the behavior of real manufacturing systems. The asymptotic theory developed here gives analytical formulas for production rates as a function of system parameters and, therefore, can be used as an inexpensive tool for the analysis and design of manufacturing processes in mass production systems, eliminating, in some cases, the necessity of complex and costly computer simulations.

A Dynamic Programming Algorithm for the Buffer Allocation Problem in Homogeneous Asymptotically Reliable Serial Production Lines

In this study, the buffer allocation problem (BAP) in homogeneous, asymptotically reliable serial production lines is considered. A known aggregation method, given by Lim, Meerkov, and Top (1990), for the performance evaluation (i.e., estimation of throughput) of this type of production lines when the buffer allocation is known, is used as an evaluative method in conjunction with a newly develo...

Using Markov Chain to Analyze Production Lines Systems with Layout Constraints

There are some problems with estimating the time required for the manufacturing process of products, especially when there is a variable serving time, like control stage. These problems will cause overestimation of process time. Layout constraints, reworking constraints and inflexible product schedule in multi product lines need a precise planning to reduce volume in particular situation of lin...

A Statistical Analysis of the Mechanical Properties of the Beam 14 in Lines 630 and 650 of Iran National Steel Industrial Group

Structural steel sections are mainly used in beams and columns of building frames. Iran National Steel IndustrialGroup is among the oldest and largest producers of beams in Iran. It has two beam production lines, namely Line630 and Line 650. In this study, the mechanical properties of manufactured beams in these production lines werecompared. Based on the t-test results, the e...

Models for MMSP-W considering workstation dependencies: A case study of Nissan's Barcelona plant

In this article, we present two formulations and their unification for the Mixed-Model Sequencing Problem with Workload Minimisation (MMSP-W) for production lines with serial workstations and parallel homogeneous processors. The models were executed in Solver CPLEX, with reference instances and with a case study of Nissan’s Powertrain plant in Barcelona. Different situations were analysed to ev...
